Second Intake for the National Age Programme in 2023-24

We are stoked to welcome 10 athletes into the 2023-2024 National Age Programme (NAP) as part of second intake. This intake was drawn from performances at the 2023 Youth Commonwealth Games and the 2023 Apollo Projects NZ Short Course Swimming Championships. These athletes will join their peers from the first intake from May, to continue supporting their development. As part of the programme, they will be invited to compete at the Queensland Championships in December.
Three swimmers have been invited to attend the October Distance camp, with Hamish Giddens, Brendan Visser and Leo English added to the camp taking place in Hawke's Bay. This will assist their development in distance swimming events.
SNZ's National Development Leader, Alastair Johnson, is excited about the team selected.
"We have seen a big increase in the number of athletes who have achieved the Gold and Silver performance standards from 21 to 36 over the last 12 months. This is very encouraging and exciting as we begin the next Olympic quad cycle post-Paris to Los Angeles 2028."
The following swimmers have been selected:
Name | Club | Coach |
Leo Arrowsmith | United | Igor Polianski |
Amelia Bray | TBSS | Sandra Burrow |
Liam Curling | Coast | John Gatfield |
