Event Preview of the Citi Para World Series in Singapore
After a four-year hiatus, the Citi Para Swimming World Series is returning to Singapore from 29 April - 1 May with the competition taking place at the OCBC Aquatic Centre. The Singapore leg, which is the only stop in Asia, marks the fifth out of nine stops in the 2023 Series. New Zealand swimmers also competed in Melbourne where our team collected one of each colour medals, with Asher Smith-Franklin (North Shore) and Gabriella Smith (Vikings) taking home a collection of New Zealand records.
Six New Zealand swimmers are set to compete with the team being led by current S4 World Champion Cameron Leslie (Whangarei) who will open his 2023 international season with the 50m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke and 50m Butterfly and the 200m Freestyle. Also competing are reigning Paralympic Champion and Commonwealth Silver medalist Tupou Neiufi (Pukekohe), Commonwealth Gold Medallist Joshua Willmer (Pukekohe), Commonwealth Silver Medallist Jesse Reynolds (Hamilton Aquatics) and 2022 World Championship finalists Gabriella Smith and Lili-Fox Mason (Wharenui).
The squad have been on a ten-day preparation camp in Thailand ahead of the meet and will be looking to make their mark on the championships as they prepare for the World Para Swimming Championships in Manchester taking place later this year in August.
