Fairweather Celebrated in Otago

Erika Fairweather wins Junior Sportswoman of the Year at Otago Sports Awards

Swimming NZ is proud to congratulate Erika Fairweather on winning Junior Sportswoman of the Year at the Otago Sports Awards.


Erika was announced as the winner last week at the ceremony at the Otago Polytechnic Te Pukenga Hub in Dunedin. She was awarded the title for her incredible performances in 2022, including:


Commonwealth Games - Birmingham 2022:

  • 5th 200m Freestyle

  • 4th 400m Freestyle

FINA World Short Course Swimming Championships – Melbourne 2022:

  • 2nd 800m Freestyle – breaking the 18s New Zealand age group record.

  • 2nd 400m Freestyle

  • Broke the 200M Freestyle Open record leading off the New Zealand 4x200M Freestyle team

New Zealand Championships 2022:

  • 1st 400m Freestyle – Broke 18 years NZ Record

  • 1st 200m Freestyle – Broke 18 years NZ Record

FINA World Championships - Budapest 2022:

  • 11th 200m Freestyle

  • 6th 400m Freestyle

  • 7th 4x200M Freestyle Relay

The Otago Sports awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of athletes from the Otago region. Fairweather was in good company with the other winners including 2022 Winter Olympic Gold Medalist, Zoi Sadowski-Synnott.

This is also not the first time Erikas achievements have been celebrated at these awards. In 2022 she was named Junior Maori Sportswoman.
