Back to School for our Officials

FINA Technical Officials School - Hamilton 2022

This week, 20 Technical Officials from around the country have taken part in the FINA Swimming School for Officials. Fellow officials from Australia, Chinese Taipei and Bangladesh also took part in the school, travelling to New Zealand for the course.

The course was delivered by Daphne Bird (South Africa), who shared her knowledge across the 2-day course in Hamilton prior to the 2022 NZ Secondary School Swimming Championships.

The course provided a stronger understanding of the swimming rules, and how to consistently interpret and apply these. The overall focus was to enhance the quality of existing officials and promote more people to get involved on pool side to assist with the delivery of swimming in New Zealand.

Swimming NZ’s Head of Participation & Events, Dale Johnson, thought the school was well received and liked the timing of the school so the participants could implement their learnings immediately in competition. “We are stoked to be able to provide opportunities for our officials to upskill and learn from other experienced officials. Daphne has multiple years of experience at FINA events, so a big thanks to her for making the trip and impart her knowledge.”

As a community, we are extremely for our officials are an integral part of our swimming experience and help us deliver meets at all levels around the country. We are always welcoming new officials and provide the best seat in the house during the racing. No better view of the swimming than from pool side and being part of the action, so why not give it a try?
