ree

The 2025 SWIMCONZ Conference was held over the weekend in Wellington, with the Swim Coaches & Teachers New Zealand (SCTNZ) Awards held at an awards dinner on the Saturday night. It was an excellent weekend with more than 120 people in attendance, consisting of coaches, swim teachers and swim schools from across the country, who came together for professional development, connection and to celebrate the industry.

Within the SWIMCONZ conference, there were presentations across three streams providing professional development, important updates and engaging discussion.

For the coaching stream, Swimming NZ announced the Coaching Review recommendations and the new Performance Pathway outline in respective presentations. There were also informative presentations about nutrition, planning your own professional development, adapting to the needs of your swimmers and stroke progression. A panel of coaches who were selected on NZ teams in 2025 rounded out the day with an opportunity for questions and answers.

The swim teachers and swim school streams also had engaging presentations on Saturday, before all streams had a pool session where demonstrations were provided about teaching different respective skills. You can learn more about the overall programme across the weekend via the link below.

One of the highlights of the weekend took place on the Sunday morning, where Swimming NZ's Olympic Head Coach, Graham Hill, detailed the journey about how he coached Chad Le Clos to beat the greatest of all time, Michael Phelps, at London 2012.

The weekend also included the 2025 SCTNZ Awards. There were multiple awards given out to celebrate performances, innovation and excellence within swimming clubs and swim schools. Congratulations to all of the winners listed below and thank you for your contribution to the aquatics industry.
