Parent Breakfasts & Coach Engagement Session

Parent Breakfasts and Coach Engagement Sessions held at recent National events

Across the recent national events, Swimming NZ has held Parent Breakfasts and Coach Engagement sessions in an effort to engage with parents and coaches and build their knowledge in order to best support their athletes.

The sessions were held across the 2023 Apollo Projects New Zealand Swimming Championships in Auckland and Apollo Projects National Age Group Swimming Championships in Hawkes Bay, in April. As well as the Apollo Projects Division II Swimming Competition in Wellington, in May.

The Parent Breakfasts presented a fantastic opportunity for parents to engage, discuss and learn about topics including Athlete Identity and Wellbeing, presented by Dr Cherie Harris, Creating Positive Swimming Experiences, presented by Dale Johnson, and Long Term Athlete Development and Performance Pathways, from Alastair Johnson.

Head of Participation and Events, Dale Johnson, commented on the sessions,

“It was great to engage with parents and help them grow their understanding in these areas. Thanks for attending and we look forward to offering more moving forward.”

32 coaches attended the Coach Engagement sessions which focused on providing a group discussion as Swimming New Zealand looks to work more collectively with the community moving forward.

The sessions focused on updating coach education and development offering to offer more support for coaches and gaining feedback from coaches regarding the commencement of the Competition Structure & Competitive Pathways Review from September 2023.

Make sure to keep an eye out for more sessions like these at future events!
