Announcement of the Individuals in Swimming NZ's Mentorship Programme for Technical Officials
Following recent updates, such as the launch of our online education modules and our assessors, we are excited to welcome the 30 officials who are seeking to further develop their skills through our new Swimming NZ Mentorship Programme.
Since launching our new Technical Officials Pathway late last year, we have been working on bringing the pathway to life. With a focus on ensuring consistency and clarity, the roll-out of this standardised assessment process is another big step in delivering the pathway. You can learn more about the officiating pathway by clicking on the link below.
The Swimming NZ Mentorship Programme has been established with the aims of:
To improve officiating in swimming
To unify the officiating procedures
To prepare officials to enable them to be appointed as a Referee or Starter at national competitions and succeed
To prepare officials to enable them to be appointed to international opportunities
To identify those officials who are interested in being appointed to the World Aquatics Lists and provide them with additional guidance & mentoring
The first cohort includes officials from across the country. Congratulations to each of the following for being in the programme.

Those in the Mentorship Programme will receive development that is tailored to support them to work toward their personal aspirations within the officiating pathway.
Swimming NZ's Technical Official & Volunteer Development Lead, Carlrine Gillespie, welcomed each official to the Mentorship Programme.
"We are extremely fortunate to have a wealth of officials who volunteer at competitions across the country who are looking to continually develop their skills. We are pleased to offer this initiative for these selected officials to help them work toward their aspirations."
Congratulations to the 30 officials joining the programme. We look forward to aiding your development over the coming months and years.
Get Involved in Officiating
Whilst this announcement is focused on supporting those officials who have already begun their journey, Gillespie took the opportunity to call for people to get involved at competitions as a technical official.
"With another step in the officiating pathway coming to life, there is no better time for someone to start learning how to be an official. The best seat in the house is being part of the action and our community is ready to welcome you and support your growth."
