Announcement of the Open Water Calendar for the 2024-25 Summer
Swimming NZ is proud to be continuing our partnership with the Banana Boat NZ Ocean Swim Series for the 2024 - 25 summer. The series will be run over 7 events throughout the country, with a return of an old favourite as the new addition to the calendar. It's the perfect way to Unlock Your Greatness by being active in the water with your mates this summer.
As part of our continued partnership, we are excited to announce that the 2025 Apollo Projects NZ Open Water Swimming Championships will be held across two days in Lake Taupo on 11 - 12 January 2025. There has been lots of learnings and planning to help this event grow in 2025 as the second year of this event delivered as part of the Banana Boat NZ Ocean Swim Series.
Swimming NZ's Head of Participation & Events, Dale Johnson, is looking forward to the summer ahead.
"We are excited to be continuing our partnership alongside Dan and his Banana Boat NZ Ocean Swim Series team. We have reviewed the events across the summer just gone and looking forward to growing the offering for our community. The return to 2 days of competition in Taupo is a big win for our swimmers, so we can't wait for the summer to roll around."
Johnson also noted the calendar announcement is great incentive for Kiwis to stay active in the water during the cooler months.
"The calendar has some stunning locations to swim at and it's a great chance for Kiwis to Unlock Their Greatness by being active in the water this summer."
Banana Boat NZ Ocean Swim Series Event Director, Dan Feisst, is also excited about the summer ahead.
"We are very excited for the upcoming season, with a new team our focus is to deliver on our promises to our customers and swimmers by providing fantastic events. We are thrilled to be continuing to partner with Swimming NZ to provide opportunities for swimmers across the summer."
As part of this calendar announcement, we will also continue offering opportunities for secondary school students to participate in open water swims in partnership with the Banana Boat New Zealand Ocean Swim Series. This includes the NZ Secondary School Open Water Swimming Championships being held at the stunning Blue Lake (Rotorua) again, and with the updated calendar we will be hosting three Zonal Secondary School Open Water Swimming Championships across the summer (Nelson, Auckland and Mt Maunganui).
More event information will be released in the coming months for the Apollo Projects NZ Open Water Swimming Championships and school events, available from our Open Water events calendar.
Multi-pass entries for the Banana Boat NZ Ocean Swim Series have now opened, with individual entries opening in the coming weeks.
Don't miss your opportunity to get involved in the open water this summer and Unlock Your Greatness.
