Announcement of the Date & Location for Div II in 2026
We are thrilled to continue our announcements for dates and locations for the 2026 competition calendar, with another of the pool competition announcements.
The 2026 Division II Swimming Competition will be held between 20 - 22 March with the three day competition returning to Moana Pool in Dunedin for the first time since 2022. It signals a return for Swimming NZ competitions to the South Island for the first time in four years following the recent upgrades that have taken place at Moana Pool.
Swimming NZ’s Head of Participation, Competitions & Engagement, Dale Johnson, is looking forward to Swimming NZ hosting competitions in the South Island once again.
"We are thrilled to be returning to Dunedin and the South Island again for Div II. It will have been four years since it was last hosted there, and it's always a great location that creates a good atmosphere."
Dunedin City Council's Acting Aquatics Manager, Chris Bisley, is excited to welcome swimmers to the region in March 2026.
"Moana Pool is excited to host the 2026 Division II Swimming Competition across three days next year. National competitions such as this provide a great opportunity for young athletes to compete against others and test their skills and ability. Hosting a swim meet like this is always a special occasion for all those involved, and is an opportunity to add to Moana Pool’s rich history of competitive swimming."
Bisley expressed how competitions returning to Moana Pool is beneficial for the region.
"The influx of visitors and competitors will be a welcome boost for Ōtepoti, and provide an opportunity for the city to showcase its hospitality. We look forward to welcoming the competitors, coaches, supporters and officials for the three days of racing."
In continuing with the Competition Review recommendations, the competition will be hosted in the March ahead of the Term 1 school holidays where the 2026 NZ Age Group Swimming Championships will be held from Wednesday 8 - Sunday 12 April 2026. The competition will be held across five sessions in a similar format to the successful delivery of the 2025 event in Auckland.
