Day Six Wrap – Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games

Lewis Clareburt (United / Nunawading – coached by Jol Finck) and Chelsey Edwards (North Shore – coached by Graham Hill) wrapped up New Zealand's swimming campaign at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games with finals appearances at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre.
Fresh from winning two gold medals and a silver during a standout Games, Clareburt returned to the pool for the men's 200m freestyle final. Racing against a quality field, the 27-year-old clocked 1:46.40 to finish seventh.
After turning in eighth at the halfway mark, Clareburt put up a strong fight over the closing stages to place seventh in a loaded field, ending his Glasgow campaign with four finals appearances and an outstanding medal haul of two golds and one silver.
"It was everything I expected and more," he said after his swim. "There were seven other guys in there who could be Olympic finalists. I was between two guys who have been No 1 and 2 in the world. I didn't do my best time, but it felt good to be there."
Competing in her first individual Commonwealth Games final, Edwards delivered an impressive performance in the women's 50m freestyle. The Kiwi sprinter stopped the clock in 25.17 to finish seventh, capping off a consistent week after progressing through the heats and semi-finals to earn her place among the Commonwealth's fastest 50m freestylers.
"I'm proud of my swim," Edwards said. "Every 50m free is so different, but I’m happy with making a Commonwealth Games final."
The final day brought New Zealand's swimming programme at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games to a close, with the team finishing the competition with an impressive haul of 10 medals (two gold, five silver and three bronze). The campaign was headlined by Lewis Clareburt's two gold medals, Erika Fairweather's historic five-medal haul, and a series of finals appearances and three New Zealand records across the week.
