Andrew Jeffcoat debuted as an Aquablack at the 2022 FINA World Championships in Budapest. He will represent New Zealand at his fourth consecutive world championships in Singapore.

Born in Port Macquarie in Australia, Jeffcoat learnt to swim in Colville Bay, before joining his first swimming club, Coromandel, to be coached by Debra Attwood. Jeffcoat continued his swimming with Fairfield during his high school years, coached by the late Ken Nixon, whilst going to school at Hamilton Boys'.

Under Nixon’s guidance, Jeffcoat was selected for the 2018 FINA World Swimming Championships (25m). After Nixon’s passing, Jeffcoat transferred to Pukekohe where he started working with coach Mitch Nairn. This partnership saw Jeffcoat break his first NZ record in 2020, before he qualified for his first Aquablack team in 2022.

Jeffcoat reached the semi-finals at his first pinnacle international competition, before winning the gold medal in the 50m backstroke months later at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. The following year, Jeffcoat made the final of the 50m backstroke at the World Aquatics Championships where he came seventh, further solidifying his place as one of the fastest backstroke starters in the world.

Jeffcoat will represent New Zealand for the fourth consecutive year in 2025.

After starting swim coaching in 2024, Jeffcoat has gained a new perspective to his swimming while working at United alongside Head Coach and fellow Aquablack Andy McMillan.

Away from swimming, Jeffcoat loves his hunting and fishing.
